About the Author

Walter Clay (Dub) Dixson, a native and lifelong resident of Fort Worth, Texas, retired in 1986 after forty years service from Dun & Bradstreet, Inc., an international business information company.

There he spent thirty years as a business credit reporter, interviewing business owners and executives, conducting research and investigations and writing biographies and credit and financial analysis. The last ten years he served as manager of customer service.

With a long-time fascination with Texas history, he was inspired by the interesting family letters and stories of the 1800's collected and saved by his grandfather, Alec Dixson. Feeling compelled to preserve these treasured facts of his family heritage, they are a vital part of "Richland Crossing." Also in the letters and subsequent research it was revealed that Walter's father was a first cousin of John Wesley Hardin, a fact which was unknown in the family. Likewise, the stories of the tragic deaths of several other cousins associated with Hardin had never been discussed in the family.

Since he is a first cousin, once removed, of John Wesley Hardin, the biography of the controversial post-civil war gunslinger dovetails with the family story and includes many of the letters from the Hardin Collection. Research for "Richland Crossing" was initiated in 1989 and the first printing was in 1994.

He has been a lifelong golf enthusiast and has also played softball off and on for all his life. After retirement in 1986, he played senior slow-pitch softball at local, national and world championship levels for 20 years. He has been a member of six world championship teams and in the process received several individual honors. He and his wife, Leta, live in the Fort Worth suburb of Crowley, Texas.

EXCLUSIVE WORLD WAR II STORY WITH LETTERS AND PHOTOGRAPHS
"FROM TYLER, TEXAS TO TOKYO"

It is a true story of an American patriot who capitalized on his civilian hobby of photography to skillfully serve his country in World War II as an aerial photo officer in a vital capacity. Elmer R. Dixson of Tyler, Texas (1910-2001) volunteered for military service and became a key figure in the ground support of aerial photo operations with the Third Photo Reconnaissance Squadron of the 311th Reconnaissance Wing under the XXI Bomber Command on Saipan in the bombing of Japan. This 178 page biographical story is based on excerpts from over 200 private letters he wrote from the Pacific war zone to his wife. Discovered only after he died, and along with his some seventy exclusive war photos, they tell the story of dedication and sacrifice of his service 1942-1946.
Authored by his brother, Walter Clay Dixson, the manuscript was donated to the museum Elmer supported. Read "From Tyler, Texas To Tokyo", a publication of The Historic Aviation Memorial Museum, Tyler, Texas.
